Weekend Check-in - Book Club Cat

For a mysterious reason, I have a massive inertia toward stepping out of my house on the weekends, even if it is for things I love! Like going to Book Club! But I shoved that inertia to the back of my head and went today anyway. By the time I reached there, everyone had already started their silent reading. As I nestled in, in a cozy little corner, and was about to start reading, someone sat down right next to me with a library copy of The Goldfinch! Now a few hours later, I see that as a happy stamp of approval, a secret green light from the universe for my re-reading-Donna-Tartt project, having just picked up The Secret History a couple of days ago! I have, subconsciously over the past four years, done a good job of forgetting everything about this book except the events of the Prologue. And so, I took enjoying The Little Friend the way I did, as a sign to change that. Now that I'm a little older (and a lot wiser, I like to think) than I was back then, I am perhaps better equipped to enjoying The Secret History ... ?

Anyway, no sooner had I started reading, than a cat walked in. Everyone looked up at it and then at each other with mild surprise and friendly smiles. This must've really been reassuring for it, because it meowed a little and then pawed over to find its own comfortable spot on the fluffy grey rug to settle down.  It then proceeded into a deep, dreamy slumber as we finished our silent reading hour and chatted about the books everyone was reading.

Soon my attention drifted from our furry companion to the cheerful discussion, and I started making my mental notes to check up all the books we had talked about. To say the least, it was a good afternoon. ☺
